Benaras 2011- Ganga on a Wobbling Pivot, AY 2010-11
Scope and Contents
This project marked twenty five years since the ambitious Ganga Action Plan. This milestone falls in line with the river being counted in the five most threatened rivers in Asia and top ten in the world. Water samples from Benaras reveal that feacal coliform count in the river is 10,000% higher than government standard for safe bathing. And yet, people bathe in Ganga every day. The present study aims to explore the possibilities of de-polluting the river that can be realised from the lives and livelihoods constructed around the river.
